I’m sure there’s something in Monty Python… or Queen… Britain in the ’70s was in some kind of a renaissance of classic sound effects.
Aaaand we range from the sublime to the suspicious to the seriously nonplussed. Any sound that requires the use of “ethereal” in type is just begging trouble.
I hope your boyfriend is feeling better by now. Having pointy crystals dragged through well-enervated soft tissues ain’t fun.

It looks like very exciting ethereal chanting, but I guess anything like that isn’t exactly a good thing in a spooky, rundown monastery. I predict ghosts.

I once tried to write the onomatopœia to the sound effect of a flushing toilet, and that Looney Toons effect they used for someone falling down the stairs.
Of course, I was 7 years old at the time, and I wrote it in Spanish, so I don’t think I got it TOTALLY right.
Ethereal chanting? Have you heard that album from those monks and a woman singing in French? That was released around 1990, I think.

I think you can do chanting as a sound effect, but I agree that there probably isn’t really a way to imply that it is both distant and etherial. Besides, this way was funnier.

I guess there really are limitations to the comics medium.
The only thing missing in the final part is a face palm, a poor idea with potential pokers for the eyes in hand.

Oh. Erm. You know… here’s the thing… I didn’t know you were ad supported. Most of us on the internet block those pesky things. You can’t really expect people to watch ads on TV, nor on the internet. It’s a broken business model. Sorry.
Though, if you want to try using ads, you can put ads in the RSS feed exactly the same as you put them on the site. Several of the sites I follow do that. I don’t see those ads either, but those who don’t block everything will.
Personally though, I thought the whole idea was that people like me will buy the book(s) when they come out? Right now the “Shop” link is an empty page and “Buy Volume One” is not a link, but I expect that to change in the future?
Shop link works fine for me. And the ads? It’s nice, if you like a comic or other ad-supported site, to click on ’em once in a while – even if you don’t buy anything. Or is that just me?
I must concur with Stoffe’s April 2nd comment. I deeply admire that you’ve made this available for free, because I think it really deserves to be appreciated by a wide audience. And while the advertising model is a good basis for this, I would also recommend that you keep a “Donate” button available for us severely addicted fans who happen to block advertisements, yet desire to contribute to your ongoing creative efforts. Because, Ursula, you rock!!! Thanks, and keep it coming!

Stoffe: Your add blocker (NoScript?) is set too broad. If you enable her site and Amazon (at least, I’m also seeing QuantServe), you’ll see bot h the donate and the Amazon link for her book.
I was thinking the same thing Marrock. That last panel of Digger on a T-shirt would be great.
I’ve always used adblock plus, which has very rarely blocked things I actually wanted to see (or at least not those that I knew should be there and couldn’t see), but I didn’t know that blocking them actually affected anything from the business model side of things… I personally never click on an ad unless I’m about 150% confident that I can trust it (ads are the #1 source for keyloggers and other such fun viruses) and it’s not some retarded “come get your free iPod!” nonsense. Needless to say, I’ve only ever clicked on like 5 ads in my lifetime. Donate buttons FTW!

Digger is NOT an atheist – she believes in gods, she just doesn’t worship or care much for them.
I think that was Worgen’s point – Digger’s atheistic in the sense that she’d prefer gods didn’t exist. But unfortunately she can’t deny the existence of gods (they keep bugging her) she would just prefer that they kept out of her business.
Hoo boy, I now at this late date have enabled ads to be shown for this site only. If there are no T-shirts to buy, and my budget is slim, I can at least have it set to show ads from here on in.
I am likely to read the whole thing again at some point, which would benefit by a bunch of clicks.
