Video card malfunction

Due to circumstances beyond our control–coming back from vacation to a fried video card!–Digger won’t be starting up again until Thursday. Very sorry for the delay! (Can’t really get the art done when the tower is a giant paperweight, alas…)

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrggghhh. Palms getting sweaty. two more days… just breathe…just breathe.

Give your old card a decent send-off, Ursula. Eat its liver in front of the new card and it may be scared into behaving itself.

    Oh, noes!

Darn, I guess this means I’ll have to do a few extra minutes of real work now …

    😉

Been there, had it happen to me –and it’s not fun when it does happen. Wish you luck, Ursula!

My video card died too, on new years eve. Exploded capacitor. Had to wait until monday to get a new one.

  6. Sarah says:

Bad luck! I look forward to seeing the next installment.

Please check your tower’s power supply. While cards do occasionally fry all on their own, a fluctuating voltage, or undervoltage, can often be the problem, and the dead card merely the result. If the supply is going, it can eat the motherboard next, or other cards.

  8. Yorick says:

You might want to check with the manufacturer of the card – many of these have 3 years warranty, and die well before then – at least if it’s an NVidia, due to the whole “Bumpgate” fiasco.

Sure, you need a card faster than they can RMA it – but at least you’ll have a working card to eBay, or give to mom. 🙂

I just had my nvidia processor die on my Macbook pro so I feel your pain. Fortunately the repairs were covered by Apple even though the machine was out of Apple Care due to recalls on said nvidia graphics card, but I get it back this Thursday! Anyway, I’ll look forward to the new post when it does arrive.

Hi there, I just got done reading your comic from the beginning, all the way to the latest page. I don’t mean to make a bad pun here, but I’ve learned that you have to dig through a lot of horrible web comics to find a good one. yours is truly one of the rare gems that make all that digging worth it. keep up the good work!
