Completely off topic. I’m reading Digger thirty pages at a time right now, and I just realized that I’ll eventually catch up to the current strip. Then I’ll be limited to one page a day ( two or three if I want to refresh myself on tthe current situation). It’s a saddening thought. Only two pages a week. Whatever will I do at night? Sleep? *bleh* 🙁
well things tend to go in and out of ears but if you listen with your bones then it will stick in you forever. haven’t you ever heard of old bones carrying memories or somesuch?

I’d say the phrase “to listen with one’s bones” conveys a much deeper degree of attention. Like the not-unsubtle difference between hearing someone and really listening to them.

One can hear and not listen, one can listen, or one can listen so intently that the normal words echo through one’s bones as strongly as a loud, low sound? Maybe?
Hmm. Wonder if Ed’s insistence on listening with ears and bones is anything to do with the anatomy of the ear? Particularly for creatures with such obvious external ears, the Hyena culture might well differentiate between the external ears (flaps of skin and cartilage) and the inner ear, which uses a specific set of bones to transmit the sound to the actual sense organ. (I assume, having no evidence to the contrary, that Hyena ears and Human ears work in the same way.)
Again, I’m happy to read this part again. Ready to listen with my ears and bones.
That’s a stern look. On Ed. Which is adorable, as all of Ed’s looks are.
Somehow I get the impression that Ed’s story will be very enlightening and helpful, as Ed’s stories typically are.

Clearly bone conduction is how the importance of Ed’s message is conveyed from the ears to the liver.
