I would imagine if they were attached the right way, could be spread, and had a high friction outer surface cloven hooves would actually be very effective at wedging in cracks. Better than the soft hands humans use to do the same thing, anyway. Barring that, hooks or claws might be present, just not visible.
they be jacked man, super jacked. besides the hooves aren’t hooves, they be claws which dig into zee rock. which is good for climbing, not so good for the rock though.

So how DO you grip the side of a vertical cliff if you have scrawny legs, cloven hooves and a centre of gravity which sticks out waaaaay too far?
Trolls have a very good sense of balance. It makes up for any external characteristics that may hamper them.
