  1. abb3w says:

Yes, very good at either… but whose good?

  2. Pete says:

I love Boneclaw Mother even more now.

  3. Veritas says:

Boneclaw Mother proves once again that she is awesome. She might not have the gentlest bedside manner, but I’d say it beats the Hag for someone with the kind of grief Digger has right now.

And better, likely, to push her to deal with it than to be overly solicitous.

  4. JewelWolf says:

How long has she known the statue again? How does she know what kind of ques- Oh right… the Thing.

  5. Brushtail says:

Hey Boneclaw Mother, can we cry on your shoulder too?

  6. TGS says:

I need me a blind sensitive grandmotherly liver eating wolf like that …

  7. Korlee says:

Is there nothing Boneclaw mother can’t do?

  8. Robin Bobcat says:

    TGS: Hyena, actually, but yeah.

Anyone can ask questions, but knowing when to shut up and let the person tell their story? That’s worth its weight in gold.

  9. Robin Bobcat says:

JW: Well, remember that the statue has been there a very, very long time. They may be uneasy neighbors, but I’d be willing to bet that BCM knew about him long before meeting face to face. They may even have met a few decades back.

  10. Caitydid says:

I will add to the chorus of people who just love Boneclaw Mother. She’s just about the most awesome ever.

  11. Atre says:

    VOTE FOR DIGGER: http://topwebcomics.com/vote/10180/default.aspx

Boost into the higher numbers? Currently at 18 and just a breezy 6700 votes away from the top 10…

On the comic… Go grumpy psychiatrist go!

  12. hariman says:

She didn’t get the name/title “Boneclaw MOTHER” for nothing. And yes, I’m one of Boneclaw Mother’s fans too.

Unless I miss my guess, one of Boneclaw Mother’s questions will be either “Do you need a hug?” or “Do you need a shoulder to cry on?”. Or both.

  13. Bartimaeus says:

Do the thing! The calming-down-ing thing.

  14. fixman88 says:

    *hugs Boneclaw Mother tight* <3

  15. slywlf says:

Awwww – bless BCM – she really is just what poor Digger needs right now.

  16. Gwennan says:

Sometimes the silences are the most important part of a conversation. Kudos to Ursula for reflecting that in the center panel.

  17. Hunter says:

Boneclaw Mother actually being motherly…that’s both heartwarming and weird at the same time.

  18. Karyl says:

    WIN to BCM!

  19. Azure says:

    Don’t mess with Boneclaw Mother.

  20. Hawk says:

    She’s right, too.

  21. Alyssa says:

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I want to be Boneclaw Mother when I grow up.

  22. Glenn (a different one) says:

Proof yet again that pragmatism and care/concern are NOT mutually exclusive…actually if Digger were up to her normal snuff, the sheer amount of practicality in that room would be frightening.

  23. perfesserbear says:

    @Korlee–

Actually, Boneclaw Mother does not have a good donut recipe. They come out tasting of liver…

    –Perfesser

  24. Rags says:

It’s obvious why they call her Mother. (Which makes one wonder about Boneclaw… ;-))

  25. Lissy says:

Heh… she uses “bless her heart” in the southern way, but more accurately. When a southerner says, “bless her heart…” what he/she really means is “bless her dense little heart.”

On a totally different note, I wish I had had someone like Boneclaw Mother when my parent passed away.

  26. ysabet says:

Boneclaw Mother’s being the archtypal Crone right now, the old woman who midwifes the new births and sees the dead into the next world. That’s pretty damn cool, and way more appropriate and useful than there-there-you-poor-baby would be to Digger at the moment.

  27. Someone had mentioned Dumbledore by Harry’s bedside at the end of book 1 on the last post. I’m definitely getting that with this one. I’m interested to see what B.C. says and what she decides not to say.

  28. MadamAtom says:

@JewelWolf and Robin Bobcat: Even if BCM hasn’t had dealings with the Statue in the past, she certainly knows OF him. Even Ed knew something about the “snout-god”, and I can’t imagine he was ever tapped to handle tribe diplomacy, so surely BCM knows more than that.

  29. Okay, the Most Awesome Maternal Figure Ever Award is now a three-way tie between Boneclaw Mother, Maddie Westen from Burn Notice, and My Mom.

  30. Bramble says:

…”bless her dense little heart?” Not her liver?

  31. Skydancer says:

I suspect hyena philosophy runs like this:

You think with your brain. You feel with your heart. And you -act- from your liver.

  32. WafflesToo says:

@Robin Bobcat: Took the words right out of my mouth… about 17 hours before I said them.

  33. Nimras says:

    Awwww… I love her so much. <3

  34. Vice Machine says:

    Boneclaw Mother, you’re my hero. ;_;

  35. Elkian says:

Have I mentioned I love her? I love her. And not in the big-shouty-capital-letters way. There really aren’t words for how awesome she is.

  36. Ryn says:

Woo, topless Digger! …. Also, yay BCM, she makes Diggerland a better place.

  37. BunnyRock says:

@perfesserbear: what’s not good about liver flavoured donuts?

Lets see, I was in Digger’s position I’d

    A, want a hug.

B, wonder why I was suddenly a different sex, species and black and white, the shock of which would probably make me want a second hug.

C, drink my glass of water. Grief dehydrates you quiet badly ( it’s the crying plus the adrenaline spent), and they you fell groggy.

D, want to punch Boneclaw. Digger had every right to be angry with the tribe after the shoddy way Ed was treated, admittedly, it wasn’t Boneclaw’s fault, but she’s the boss. When you are the boss, even if it’s not your fault it is your responsibility (which is why the mere words “plausible deniability” make me want to vomit, but that’s another matter). The tribe screwed up and Ed paid for it big time. He died, and he didn’t KNOW he was going to, is the worst bit. He was prepared and willing to risk it all to help Digger, but he didn’t go into the situation thinking “this is it, may as well go out swinging.” He went in scared an uncertain, hoping to get out okay but still willing to risk all, and after it went bad his own daughter won’t acknowledge his name because the tribe brought her up to think that way. And what’s worse, Boneclaw KNOWS this and would LET you hate her in that situation, just like Ursula said it was okay for people to hate her after she wrote Ed’s death. And you can’t fight against that. Once they are willing to let you hate them, if that’s what you need to do right now, there nothing you can do.

E, may as well go for another hug then.

F, find my pick-axe and deal with the horde of people who inexplicably seem to be fawning over my topless frame.

  38. jaynee says:

    BunnyRock rocks again. F, forsooth!
