  1. Terry says:

No offense to him, but you know things are serious when Ed is the voice of reason.

  2. iburns says:

“I think that if you weren’t you’d have used it already, now that you mention it . Why?”

It reminds me of the end of IT: if it’s threatening you and telling you to leave now, that means it’s scared because you can hurt it. Dirt rats kick ass!

  3. tmk says:

“Mmm. Yes. Wasted opportunity. Very sad.”

  4. Rowan says:

    Much love to Ed.

The last few panels have really made me yearn for hard copies of Digger so I can just revel in the art. Thank goodness I get my yearly bonus this week! πŸ™‚

  5. BoBSpldbckwrds says:

    woo, mexican standoff!

  6. Aria says:

Yay! I did mention Digger to a few people at Worldcon at the weekend. There may be the odd new reader from that.

  7. chalcara says:

I love Ed. Just like that.

    Ed rocks.

  8. Bwee says:

I suspect one of two things is going to happen:

    1. Ed is going to get shanked.

    2. In short order we will cut back to Murai, Jhalm and Boneclaw Mama.

  9. Affenkatz says:

Ed’s perfectly safe until the crowbar gets used, or a situation in which the crowbar would be needed presents itself.

  10. fixman88 says:

Yeah, go Digger go! (even though I’m wondering if it’s prudent to irritate SGV…)

  11. cjack56 says:

Anyone here remember a poster of a mouse flipping the finger to the falcon that was about to grab him in it’s claws? I think it was titled “The Last Great Act of Insolence”

  12. Rags says:

    Digger. Dig her.

  13. Rhio2k says:

    Uh oh…she’s floundering…

  14. Loren says:

I have a feeling SGV is about to over-reach itself.

    Vote: http://topwebcomics.com/gpages/default.aspx?id=10180

  15. Niall says:

Whereas I do remember that SGV has, well, a lot of cold servants lying about ready to do its material bidding. That’s the power it has, and Ed and Digger will have trouble with them… THEN we’ll switch back to the surface. πŸ™‚

  16. Werrf says:

Put me in the “If you had power, you would’ve used it by now” camp. Sweetgrass Voice talks a good talk, but the only fight we’ve ever seen it in, it was beaten by a *baby*. So, no, right now I’m voting it *doesn’t* have power to destroy digger (directly).

Setting the cold servants on her, however…

  17. Hawk says:

Uh oh! She poked the bear!

    *covers eyes*

  18. The_Rippy_One says:

Ray…? What are you doing, Ray?

  19. Glenn (a different one) says:

No, the trouble is, tomorrow I go on vacation for a bit of over a week, and where I’m going I may not have any kind of net access, though I will be packing a computer, just in case…

  20. Errick says:

Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.

  21. Tivaleh says:

In the last panel, SGV’s lower jaw looks an awful lot like a thumb, wonder if the design was inspired by somebody playing shadow-puppets?

  22. Exindiv says:

Digger knows that if she keeps him talking, that yes, he pretty much is powerless. This is the power of the monologue! If you tell me all about your warped demon childhood, personal disappointments, and driving angsts, then you won’t have the time or energy to stop me from thwarting you.

  23. I think it was pretty smart to envoke Shadowchild here. It’s reminding SGV of its last defeat. She’s throwing it off it’s game…I hope? No SGV will do something rash and the good guys will get the upper hand…right?…that is right isn’t it?

  24. Alondro says:

SGV still has the power of… FLASHBACKS!!!

Yes, for the next 50 years there will be nothing but an endless stream of flashbacks that Digger will be compelled to hear; from SGV’s forray into vaudeville to its knitting classes and bonsai collection!

There will be no escape! D:

  25. JewelWolf says:

    I LOVE you, Ed!
I want an Ed plushie RIGHT NOW!!!

  26. k says:

As much as Digger would be awesome on paper, it is awesome that the internet doesn’t run out of black pixels.

  27. Barry says:

Ursula, this is your mother. I want you to remind me, at this point, how you have the story plotted out. You’ll do that for your mother, won’t you?

(This didn’t work last time, but there’s always hope.)

  28. Rhio2k says:

Don’t think so, B. you should’ve tossed in a “And CALL me sometime, for heaven’s sake.”

  29. WafflesToo says:

Gotta go with Ed on this one…

  30. Hawk says:

We should spend the entire weekend making up ludicrous powers for SGV.

  31. The_Rippy_One says:

SGV ridiculous power #26: Can create ice cold beer…bottles. No actual beer, just the bottles. Ed needs to watch his step before hilarity ensues.

  32. After a culinary accident in which SGV was rudely expelled from Hell’s Kitchen, SGV learns that it can exude various cooking sauces and seasonings from its extremities.

  33. Lucius Appaloosius says:

Not to mention SGV’s disastrous crossover album with Marvin Hamlisch……. 7X=G

  34. Prankster says:

“Fool! I should have destroyed you when I had the chance!”

Sweetgrass Voice isn’t huge on avoiding cliche, is he/she/it? I’m guessing its next move will be to kill one of its henchmen for no reason, then put Digger in an easily-escaped deathtrap.

  35. Tosxychor says:

Aaaand I’ve caught up. Just in time to witness the conclusion, that will now be excruciatingly stretched in time, compared to the binge I’ve been doing :p But I’ll live, I guess.
Of course, the comic is wondrous, thank you so much Ursula for all you’ve done. ^^ This one’s probably the deepest webcomic I’ve read so far.

  36. Mark Antony says:

Unbeknown to Digger, Sweetgrass Voice has yet to unveil his mighty talent for shadow puppets. They are so good that Digger will need to fight the compulsion to repeatedly ask SGV to do Deformed Rabbit because “it’s his favorite”.

  37. Octane says:

    “u mad?”

  38. Shadw21 says:

Shall we take bets on Shadowteen coming by to save the day for them?

Perhaps with an group/army of other Shadowchildren?

  39. Rivalyn says:

SGV’s only power: Lying without speaking an untrue word. I get the feeling that the answer to SGV’s “Do you think me powerless?” should be ‘Yes’. Only by believing it to have powers, fell and terrible, does it actually have such things.

  40. the unclean one says:

Whenever the powers of chaos strike…………..by the emperor there is never an inquisitor around when you actually need one

hope fully my long held suspicion of Wombats being a race of “Blanks” is confirmed here XD

  41. ortonmc says:

SGV says “Fool!” But whom is he talking about? It rather seems as if he’s calling *himself* a fool.

    Perhaps he’s right.

  42. A Little Slow says:

Okay, I know I’m being a little slow here, but when do we find out SGV is called SGV again? It seems like he was suddenly being called that in the comments and I missed if it came up in the comic itself.

  43. Ed does appear to be moving. He is further along on the creepy, no room to breathe path.

  44. rueyeet says:

Niall is correct — who needs power when one has perfectly good minions, close to hand?

Unfortunately, this means Ed is also correct. D:

  45. BunnyRock says:

@Errick, @Mark Antony : awesome, love the references.

Unbeknownst to Ed and Digger, SGV can hear the theme music, and change it at will. He can make other hear it and even inflect upon people unflattering LEITMOTIFS! They will be doomed to spend the rest of their lives with the opening strains of “It’s a small world after all!” and “The hamster dance” playing wherever they go, to the annoyance of all! They will be shunned SHUNNED! I TELL YA! SHUUUUNNNNNEEDDD!

  46. You know, just re-reading this I can’t help but think of SGV as a shadow puppet made with hands, or maybe the shadow ofa cool sock puppet. πŸ˜›

  47. Ellemerr says:

… I… kind of like “It’s a small world after all”… And I’m sure that whatever it is, I’d survive a bit of “the hamster dance” if it meant I could get to hug Ed. :3
