  1. Kevinbunny says:

Oooh.. that’d be either a slug or a shrew.. either way, woo!

  2. Veritas says:

    My money’s on the slug.

Which made my first thought on seeing this, “Oh, no…”

  3. Xyon says:

I’m betting there’s a slug who might wind up very smug about his prophecies…

  4. Soor says:

    Yay slug tiems πŸ˜€

  5. Kobrag says:

    Please be a slug!

  6. jokergirl says:

My first thought was also: “Yay, prophetic slug! – Oh, no…”

    πŸ˜‰

  7. Sabreur says:

The leaves say “Cthulu Fthagan”. Not sure what that means.

  8. Roose Hurro says:

Question is, can a slug hiss?

  9. Lindale says:

Yay for proud prophetic pulmonate (possibly)! πŸ˜€

  10. KNO3 says:

Oh that. ” β€œCthulu Fthagan” means guest artist week Sabreur.

  11. JewelWolf says:

Looks like I’m not the first to think “SLUG!!!”
Anyway, I really like the look on Grim-Eyes’s face in the first panel. It is the look of pure relief. I know that feeling: the “I’m finally home” feeling.

  12. Niall says:

Slug wouldn’t hiss – that’s more shrew style.

  13. Barry says:

    Could be Ed.

Actually, I was looking for a slug cameo in the first panel before I read the second one.

  14. Madam Atom says:

    @Barry:

“Actually, I was looking for a slug cameo in the first panel before I read the second one.”

That’s because Grim Eyes’s tree seems to be covered in slime-runes.

Seriously, does that look like arcane writing to anyone else?

  15. TekServer says:

Hey, maybe it’s Murai! She’s in the bush trying to take a crap and having trouble, so she wants Digger’s advice …

(Probably the slug, though … )

    πŸ˜‰

  16. TekServer says:

Oh, and Barry? Did you mean a slug cameo, or a snail cameo?

    πŸ™‚

  17. Ketira says:

    Veritas: ditto!

“And it’s deja-vu all over again.” (Yogi Berra)

  18. Keenath says:

“Y’know, I used to be able to go for whole months at a stretch without people in the bushes wanting to talk to me.”

  19. Beacon80 says:

I didn’t think about slugs. My first thought was it’s going to be some animal that will try to eat Digger before becoming her friend. ^_^

  20. wolfofsilver says:

I concur on the slug runes. And “Cthulhu Ftagan” could be in reference to…oh, I don’t know, Cthulhu. You know, the elder god who likes to drive people insane? Could be him….or a guest artist. ^_^

  21. wolfofsilver says:

And where do you see the “Cthulhu Ftagan at? My eyes are failing me today. lol

  22. wolfofsilver says:

    Oh, nevermind. I got it now. I feel rather silly for not seeing the joke. >.<;

  23. 12Many says:

It could be one of the skins from underground. ‘Cause sweetgrass voice is about to start his invasion and they want to warn the others. Or it could all be too late and the skins want to let us know by making an appearance. Or it could be the skins wanted to provide fan service by making an appearance. All of those are acceptable answers.

  24. SweetMissBlue says:

I’m glad I’m not the only one who wants the slug to show up.

  25. L Gore says:

Slug? Shrew? My money is on Shadowchild!

  26. JewelWolf says:

    @12Many
It could be one of the skins asking for more skin! πŸ˜€ Or purple ink. They like purple.

  27. JewelWolf says:

Wait! Does anyone think that the shenanigans of a certain old blind hyena with quartz eyes (who may or may not be known as Bone-Claw Mother) might involve hiding in bushes? It’s a slim chance, but the word “slug” has been tossed around so much I thought it might be cool to speculate something else.

  28. Lica says:

    My vote for the Slug!

  29. alex says:

Caught up. I think it’s the slug.

  30. JewelWolf says:

So is mine, but still, wouldn’t it be funny?

  31. AnonyGirl says:

I don’t get the “Cthuklu Ftagan” joke. Help, please? My guess is that the writer didn’t mean “written on the leaves” — because careful systematic search of an expanded image doesn’t help me find such. Instead, I think they meant the leaves *Say* (as in speak), “Cthuklu Ftagan” in the same way that they said, “Hssst!”

So why is this funny? Even when explanations “ruin” a joke, I prefer to understand, and they don’t always ruin a joke. I’m guessing for now that this is a reference to something outside this comic, or something from earlier that I’ve forgotten… Help?

  32. TekServer says:

“Written on the leaves” refers to the way the slug “reads” the leaves to get his prophecies.

See Kevinbunny’s response here for the Cthulhu explanation: http://www.diggercomic.com/?p=762&cpage=1#comment-6762

  33. dreysabriel says:

*deepbreath* “Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn,” which translates as “In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.” This is often shortened to “Cthulhu fhtagn,” which might possibly mean “Cthulhu waits,” “Cthulhu dreams,” or “Cthulhu waits dreaming.” (stolen from Wikipedia)
Its a reference to everyones favorite horror writer, H.P. Lovecraft. as for Cthulhu, dont think about him too much. you’ll hurt yourself.

  34. BoardEntity says:

murai is an absentee member of the journey yet again lol.

  35. Matanui3 says:

Oh, hey, a talking bush! Haven’t seen one of those for a while!

  36. Creatura says:

    Another talking bush! lol.
