I love the way you draw the stairs. I find stairs so hard to draw.

  2. JewelWolf says:

I love Digger’s expression in the second panel. She looks so ticked. XD

  3. Chris says:

Congratulations on strip #750. A nice milestone.

  4. Hawk says:

Stairs of Silence! *dun dun DUN* That kind of trip would have me screaming with boredom after the first thirty steps!

Also I love the artwork in this one. I find stairs to be a pain too when I draw.

    <3 it, Ursula!

  5. jassius says:

“And at the end of the stairs we found a solid stone wall, an spade, shovel, pickaxe and a plate that read: Monastery’s budget ended here. You can dig your own path from here. Thanks”

That art is great. Really transmits an impression of darkness and oppressive sinking down the roots of Earth on that stair *Brrr!*

  6. JewelWolf says:

Rofl. I honestly think they’re going to run into something alive, or worse, not alive, but running into an obstical like that wouldn’t surprise me. You know how Ursula is.

  7. Rowanmdm says:

If they do run into something alive/not alive of the attacking variety, I can just picture Grim Eyes getting excited to actually do something. Digger also might be ready to take her frustrations out on something of the mutant pebble bat variety.

  8. Zach says:

I love how grumpy Digger looks!

  9. wicketbird says:

Oh, c’mon, you guys know that a solid wall and digging implements would absolutely delight Digger! Heck, the way things have been going for her since this whole thing started, she might start crying just from the whole comfy, normal, homey-ness of it 🙂

  10. Skydancer says:

Oh, c’mon. D-Helix would have mentioned if there was wombat-grade work to do in the tunnel, doncha think? Give the old fellow credit for expertise in his own field, at least.

  11. Brenna says:

Oh, lord. My joints hurt just looking at that. Also, I discovered today that “Mother of Moles” has worked its way into my lexicon of euphemisms.

  12. KNO3 says:

Nah, jassius, it’s probably not stone but several thousand tons of wet snow.

  13. duskDiamond says:

They could play “I spy” to pass the time…

“I spy something beginning with S… and its not stone….”

  14. JewelWolf says:

Now that makes sence, KNO3. That’s something Helix couldn’t predict because he doesn’t pay attention to the constantly changing weather, and something that would pose as a strange new obstical for Digger. As far as I know, the wombats’ home continant is Australia, and I don’t think it snows there.

  15. jassius says:

So the path was possibly clear last time D-Helix saw it. Of course that was 700 years ago. The tunnel holding the mountain over their heads was build by humans who don’t care about their work lasting more than their lives or a couple of generations at most. It leads to a mostly dead arcane god guarded by evil hyena-like creatures and possibly by the curled in anger spirit of SGV.
    What could go wrong?
And still I will possibly be surprised by whatever lies, grows or lived down those stairs o_O

At least Murray is not having “blurred vision” yet. I take that as a good sign. Apart from other story rols awaiting, it’s good to have a detector that handy.

  16. Kayru says:

You know, the first thing I noticed when looking at this comic, too, was the stairs…

  17. JewelWolf says:

I took that as a good sign, too, jassius. Murai can be very helpful in that way, to the readers, but maybe this time it’ll happen while they’re running away from whatever is down there, living or dead, and it’ll slow them down. Or maybe it’ll happen when they’re trapped in a cave in of ice and snow.

  18. jassius says:

Possibly so with Diggers luck up to now.
Happy gang of overly-optimistic people, aren’t we?
    *Groan*

  19. Loren says:

I don’t see why Digger would be unfamiliar with snow, since yes, it does snow in Australia. It just does it during their winter, July and August. 🙂

I hope the stairs don’t last too long, or they’re going to be too tired and sore to either fight or fly when they reach the next challenge.

  20. Kef says:

I just hope nothing starts ‘shining’

  21. Mordus says:

    Seconded. Im worried about that.

  22. Madam Atom says:

Okay, I know I’m obsessing over this, but it worries me.

We haven’t seen Grim Eyes’s face with light on it since September 3. On September 15 she looked positively demonic. Now she’s not talking … which isn’t terribly out of character, but still …

    Possession, anyone?

  23. AlpineBob says:

    @ Madam: “Paul is Dead!”
Which isn’t to say you’re wrong; just that coincidences aren’t necessarily clues.
The great thing about art is how many ways it can be interpreted. But now you’ve got me thinking – in the last panel the back of her head looks almost evil, the way she is avoiding their eyes!
Just kidding! She’s just tired and resting on an outcrop that happens to be facing away.
It’s all in how you look at things…
Ursula does put amazing stuff in her art. But we each add our own interpretation to many aspects.
It’s all part of the fun!

    > @ Madam: “Paul is Dead!”

Okay, I LOLed. 🙂 Fair enough.

  25. TekServer says:

I just got back from a trip where I did an unaccustomed amount of walking. I am sore and probably will be for a few days.

I totally feel for Digger and company …

    😉

  26. Eagle0600 says:

@Loren: It mostly only snows in the Snowy Mountains and Tasmania.

  27. tigertail777 says:

Slinky! slinky! everyone wants a slinky! *It’s going to be some kind of record!….awww COME ON!…can we go back to the top and do it again???* (taking place at some other monastery stairs)

First comment. Awesome comic and I am almost caught up finally. 🙂
