Digger

Sorry for the delayed update, gang–like a moron, I hit the wrong button and this was slated to go live on July 6th, 2010. Which would have been quite a long time to wait.

This is page 600 of Digger. Once again, let me add that while I am terribly proud of Digger, if I ever get the notion to do a webcomic epic again, somebody take me out in the backyard and shoot me.

First, sadly, I do believe the demon talking to Shadowchild *is* Sweetgrass Voice. I accidentally clicked “Open Image in New Tab” on my mouse, and this comic is called -2009-07-06-wombat600-sweetgrass.gif. SO, if Ursula herself titled this pic Sweetgrass, I’m pretty sure it’s Sweetgrass we’re looking at.

I for one want so see Elf vs. Orc and the Chupacabra stories. Does anyone else also remember The Conspiracy of Mammals but me?

I have faith in Shadowchild. =)

    <3 the “YAY!” panel.

And I, too, will find a way to make you sweets if you start another webcomic.

  3. Maureen says:

Don’t be so critical! How often does a villain have a reason to steal candy from babies? How many villains appreciate the tightness of a baby’s grasp?

  4. jr says:

I fondly remember The Conspiracy of Mammals. It was the first thing of Ursula’s that I read, What I would liker more than any of the previously mentioned projects is more Gear World Journal. Though all of her writing is very good.

So: either SGV is stretched too thin to do the deed himself; or the eons of semi-death have so sapped his powers, that he can only persuade others to act for him; or…….?

Mishal — That’s a great if somewhat spoil-y trick. I’ve been rereading a few of these, and occasionally there’s an Easter egg. Arrival at the hyena villaget has an interesting association.

I would totally read a comic adaptation of Elf vs. Orc. I’d be on that like a deranged tentacle beastie on an underraged-and-yet-improbably-busty schoolgirl. 😀

  8. abb3w says:

I also have both memory and passing fondness for the Conspiracy of Mammals. Enough so that I refer to one perpetual-evolution-flamewar mailing list I’m on as “The Conspiracy of Evolved Mammals”.

    GIVE ME THE BRAIN!

    happy shadowchild is happy!

  10. Hawk says:

I tend to refer to this demon as Sweetgrass Voice for several reasons – one being the shape which is just too close to that shown much earlier in the comic. Ursula is too careful a craftsman to have slapdash shadows, so I believe that this demon and Sweetgrass Voice don’t just look the same, they ARE the same.

That said – love that “Yay!” panel too! It reminds me of my son when he was small and cheering about something or other. And, I’m cheering for Shadowchild’s moment of hesitation.

Even if he does eat the friends. O.o

And, finally: cheesecake = win; epic comic = win; epic comic + cheesecake = small slice of Paradise!

  11. Rags says:

There are other reasons for asking someone to do something, than not being able to do it yourself. Like testing them, or trying to corrupt them. I could kill my enemy myself, and he would be dead. But if I make you do it, he’s dead and you are a murderer.

    Hypothetically speaking of course.

Um… Hey, you got a backyard?

  12. HollyB says:

Since we’re throwing out webcomic ideas, how about Empire of Feathers? http://ursulav.deviantart.com/art/Empire-of-Feathers-110384013

And nth’d on the loving the “Yay!” panel. Shadowchild is such a deliciously expressive blob of black.

  13. Tom Long says:

/me formulates plans to travel to the States during con season, corner Ursula and present her with a large home-made cheesecake.

  14. JET73L says:

“Why?” That would be difficult for Sweetgrass Voice to get around.

  15. TekServer says:

I wonder if Ursula ever got any of the promised cheesecake …

    😉
