Helix

Somebody had commented that Helix was not mentioned in the comic since 2007. Actually, that’s an artifact of the re-dating process when I switched Digger to wordpress…the original mention of Helix went up in July of 2005.

I’ve been planning this for awhile, but it wasn’t until I went back and checked the dates that I realized just how LONG. Since the comic began in late 2003, that was like…two thirds of the comic ago, which kinda blows my mind a little.

I have GOT to learn to write short stories.

There is nothing wrong with long stories. I rather like them. 🙂

  2. Jessica says:

Heck no! We love your long stories. 🙂

  3. Max says:

Indeed. The longer you make the story, the more there is to enjoy.

  4. Mr. Son says:

Short stories, long stories… As long as there’s always more of them!
(Though personally, I favor the long ones.)

  5. Laurel says:

Write on, dear lady, write on! ^_^

  6. Serena says:

What’s the date of the previous mention? I’d like to look it up.

  7. zellion says:

and obviously from the comments your fans are obsessive enough to have remembered his name as familiar enough so we could go look it up in book 2, so no harm done.

  8. Kaolin Fire says:

Any time you write a short story (or vignette) in this format, I *expect* know a place that would love to have it. Or two, even.

    <3 Digger 🙂

  9. wolfofsilver says:

We adore your long stories, Ursula! Though, your short stories would be verily neat. ^_^

  10. mouse says:

i am happy to have short or long stories, as long as you do many of them. about digger.

  11. mouse says:

and as to the current one – well, the heading on the site says it’s an epic. who ever heard of a short epic?

  12. poppiesnroses says:

I like Nurk, myself- but I like Digger better. On the other hand, I can see the, hm- strain? time-effort?- that is required of writing a good story. Anyway, a resounding “I love your stuff, epic or not!” with the rest of the commentators.

Also, ee! for the “nice girl who’s good with explosives.” Er- on the other hand, I suppose it’s better for one to have someone who’s -good- with explosives as opposed to someone who’s bad with them…

  13. mamculuna says:

No, no, you need to write much longer stories! Like this one–it should go on for at least five more years.

  14. Kisuneko says:

But short stories wouldn’t keep us entertained for half as long ;3

  15. abb3w says:

As long as you (Ganesh forfend!) don’t fall into the trap Robert Jordan did, and write stories longer than your life expectancy… no problem. (If you do… please keep Alchemist briefed on the long-term plans, and artists you consider competent. And wear gloves when poking the aquarium fauna….)

Besides, you usually do provide a short-short story with your one-off artworks. The trick is next how to put a short story running between at most a dozen pictures. After that, it’s just a question of finding a publication market. Or making enough for an anthology, whichever.

  16. Mavericke says:

Can anyone give me the redating of the original reference to Helix, so I can actually look up what they’re talking about?

  17. Simon says:

The first reference to Helix is here: http://www.diggercomic.com/?p=252

  18. RA says:

But it’s an epic, and she’s only visited the afterworld once! Wombats shouldn’t have unfinished business. Besides, if there’s no Digger to get me through the last of college and grad school, what am I going to do?

  19. Tindi says:

You either write little paragraphs that lead us thirsting for more about your *insert Ursula arting here* or you do comics. I like ’em all. 😀

  20. Diran says:

I’ve just finished reading the whole of this comic in one sitting, i found it through a convoluted route, via phalloi and other such mysteries…i just have to tell you how much i love the story and i’m more than a little sad to hear that the end is in sight.

thank you so much for making such brilliant and insightful art.

  21. DeoxysRibonuke says:

Is Helix a guy or a girl? Or is it as of this time unknown?
