Is this thing on?

Well, gang, here we have it–the new Digger site!

Craziness! Madness! Bunnies!

Graphic Smash has decided to spin Digger off and give it its own home! And there was much rejoicing! Yaaaay!

For everybody who’s wondering what this means, Digger will no longer be subscription only. I’m very grateful to all my loyal subscribers–you guys kept Digger afloat for years, and I quite literally would not be here without you! I’m trying to figure out something nice to do as a thank you–watch this space for developments on that front.

As for people new to Digger–or who started, and hit the wall and didn’t finish, or drifted off, or missed an update, or whatever–welcome! Great to see you again!

    Huzzah!

  2. The new site looks great, Ursula!

  3. Peter says:

And now I never have to worry about missing a day.
    Thanks!

  4. Visi says:

But.. I subscribed yesterday! Just to read this!

  5. *happy dance*

Thanks for all your work Ursula!

  6. Polychrome says:

Yay! Um, could we get some Next/Previous buttons for the archive? Currently attempting to read through it is like pulling teeth.

  7. Taellosse says:

    Yaaay!!!

  8. admin says:

Uh…there are buttons both under the strips and up in the right corner. Are they not showing up for you?

  9. admin says:

If you drop Joey an e-mail, I suspect he can probably arrange a refund on something that recent.

  10. nifboy says:

Sooo, I hope your servers have been stress-tested, because most of your readership (self included) is about to go through the archives. Even Girl Genius wasn’t ready for the day when its pre-online archives caught up with the current stuff.

  11. Rachelkachel says:

If it’s any help, it looks like whether the buttons show up is browser-related – my sister couldn’t get them to show in Camino, but they did when she switched to Safari, and I can see them fine in Firefox.

  12. Polychrome says:

Okay, it appears that Camino doesn’t want to render the sidebars.
    It works in Safari though.

  13. Nornagest says:

So I can actually see the archives now? Kickass.

  14. Joey Manley says:

@Visi: pop me an email (joey @ comicspace.com) and I’ll get you a cancellation and refund, if you want. Everybody else: to cancel a GS subscription, you go to your PayPal account, find your most recent payment, and cancel from there. Or email me.

@Polychrome: works fine for me in Firefox on Mac, which uses the exact same rendering engine as Camino. Are you sure you haven’t got some personal setting in there somewhere that might be interfering?

  15. quiltcat says:

errmm…does that mean i can drop my subscription to GraphicSmash, since Digger was the only thing i went there for? i do for sure want to keep supporting Digger (and Ursula of course).

  16. Kevinbunny says:

And thus didst the chorus of ‘Squee!’ ring out across the land!

I need to send more folks here, now that they can properly browse the archives..

  17. MadKat says:

Congrats on the new site, Ursula! Awesome to have free access to Digger finally.

I’m hoping you’re getting some of this ad revenue, too!

  18. RK Bentley says:

    Cool stuff! πŸ™‚

  19. Amethyst42 says:

So glad to have this! A few little tweakages still needed with the site (‘Get an avatar’ should probably open in a new tab rather than switch sites, and you need a mini-graphic for the the URL bar, but that’s just the web designer in me, feel free to ignore). I want to share Digger with all my friends, and now I finally can!

  20. Vera says:

I’m using Firefox and I can’t see the “Next” etc. buttons. If I use MS Internet Explorer though, they’re there. Can this be fixed? I’m a die-hard Firefox user and *hate* MSIE!

Also, ditto the question on dropping the GraphicSmash subscription. The only thing I subscribed for was Digger — never read anything else there.

  21. TΓ‘ssia says:

Yay!!! Great, now I can _make_ my friends read Digger too! πŸ˜€ (It was hard to convince ppl to subscribe to a international site ^^;)

Congratulation on the new site, Digger totally deserved it πŸ˜‰

  22. Kevin says:

Fantastic! I’ve been subscribed to Graphic Smash for awhile now just for Digger and this is great news for yourself and Digger. I’ll be here Tuesday and Thursday for the updates because I’m obsessed with Digger and your amazing work. Thanks Ursula!

  23. DCM says:

@quiltcat You can support Ursula directly by clicking on her ads (whose revenue goes to her partly), and also donating to her directly πŸ™‚ Thanks for your support of Graphic Smash and Digger πŸ™‚

  24. Miranda says:

Hooray! I’ll still subscribe to Graphic Smash, but that’s cool that Digger’s gone free. A lot of my friends were like “I like it, but…..I don’t like that I have to pay for it.”. Of course, I would argue, “But…but…but…it’s only $2.95 every so often…” >.<;;; So now I can tell them “THERE! Free now! LOOK AT THE HONORABLE DIGGER!” I am SO going to donate to Ursula. She’s awesome, in ways I cannot describe. πŸ™‚

  25. Dawn says:

Great news…gonna start clicking on the ads.

  26. Trias says:

    Hurrah for the dedicated site!
However, I’m also having problems with the navigation links. For what it’s worth, I tried tabbing through the links on a few pages and it seems like the first-previous-next-last links are all there, I just can’t see them. I’m currently viewing this page with Firefox 2.0.0.20, and while I can’t think of anything on my end other than a dated browser that might cause this, I will admit the possibility. I hope this information is helpful.

  27. ark says:

the website is cleaner, and i can forward the address to friends without having to add small print about the subscription. promotions for everyone!

  28. Digger-Not-The-Wombat says:

I’m THRILLED Digger has her own site, and that the subscription is gone!!! But, alas, I have no scroll through the archives arrows either; I’m using Firefox with NoScript.

  29. Spizzy says:

me and my b/f on separate computers also can’t see the next/previous buttons on firefox. I have blocking add ons but I turned all of them off to see if that was the problem, and I still see no buttons (firefox/pc)

  30. Courtney says:

I’m on firefox on debian, and I also cannot see the navigation buttons.

  31. Alondro says:

    Yay! New site!

And as for today’s comic… uhm, isn’t doing what a dark power tells you to do generally a bad idea? o_o

  32. Rhan says:

    Wooohoooo!

  33. RuaDragon says:

This is unbelievably awesome! Congratulations on Digger getting it’s own site, it deserves it.

  34. Slacker says:

Just to chime in on the general squee, etc etc….

Also to chime in on the “Can’t see the navigation links” wagon. Using Firefox 2.0.0.20 on Windows, all adblocks and script killers off.

  35. Anyte says:

Would it be possible to get an index to the archives by content rather than just by date? Even just chapter headings would be great.

  36. wolf says:

what great news! with no subscription charge, it’s not a far cry to say digger is the best webcomic on the net!

  37. Kez says:

Do you have any banners I can use to link you? Text links just don’t do justice. 200×40 would be stellar, but I wouldn’t be opposed to 468×60. Umm….yeah. *prods* Pretty please?

  38. Yavine says:

    Yay for free Digger!
I’m among those that started late and missed a whole part of it. I read it all already and discovered what I had missed and I’m glad I could finally do it πŸ™‚ Digger is great beyond words. Thank you Ursula for creating it and thank you people of Graphic Smash for making it free.

    Also, is there any chance for Digger to be translated into other languages on paper? I would be thrilled to be able to give it as gifts to some of my friends, but most only read French and some hardly know what internet is ^^;

  39. Kinto_M says:

Why oh why did this wonderful event have to come now? It’s midterm season! Do I study, or do I go through the Digger archives to relive the magic and to discover for the first time what I’d missed? Frankly, calculus and physics don’t stand a chance.

    Hooray for free Digger!

  40. Laurel says:

Oh, I am so excited! If I had a tail, it would be waving madly! I follow Digger faithfully but every now and again I miss a day because of illness or vacation (hopefully NOT at the same time! ~_^). In the past I’d have to wait until the next Digger volume was published to see what I’d missed. But no more, yeah!!!!!! It’s probably in the works, but if not, let me say here that I hope you’ll be doing a Nurk sequel soon!! Aloha!

  41. Calen says:

Oh wow, I remember reading this a long time ago, and never picking up on it again… I’d dive right into it now if I wasn’t 100% sure I’d get zero sleep tonight if I started. XD
Looking forward to rereading the entire thing start to finish tomorrow. This is a fantastic story.

  42. GΓΌnther says:

The missing navigation links are a problem with Firefox 2.x/Mozilla 1.8, but not with Firefox 3.x/Mozilla 1.9. (I tested with two versions of Galeon, a mozilla based browser, and Firefox 3.0.7.)

    Thank you πŸ™‚

  43. Lica says:

I was waiting for this day… I knew this day would come… I just knew it…

Now, if you excuse me, I’m going right to archives to read all the strips I never read! Huzzah!

  44. Sam says:

Much happiness. Much much. One small sadness. My husband didn’t get to read Ed’s Story. I want to show it to him, but I can’t find Ed’s Story in the Archive. Either I’m looking in the wrong dates, or it isn’t there. I’m hoping that it will be in the next book.

  45. mngrif says:

Many thanks for opening this up to the public. A friend linked me to the site about a week ago, and I’ve done read ’em all! Amazing stuff! As odd as it seems, this was exactly what I needed in my life.

    Again, thank you!

  46. infornography says:

I just found this comic and just read through the entire archive. This is a phenomenal comic and I can easily see this quickly becoming one of my favorites. Just wanted to say hi and thanks.

  47. John the Wysard says:

I was introduced to Digger on another webcomic’s page… and now I’ve spent several hours (which might have been billable hours alas, but worth it) going through the entire archives.

Ursula, I’m VERY impressed with the power of the artwork, the strength of the character development, and the gripping plotline. As others have said, this is one of the best webcomics I’ve seen. Thank you.

I’ve got ads turned off (and will keep them off, sorry!) but I’d love to make a donation if you have a link where I can do so. Work such as yours richly deserves support.

    John Vinson

  48. Soup says:

DOES THIS MEAN I CAN READ DIGGER?
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD/dies

haha, I don’t need to sleep tonight. I do that all the time, I can skip it for tonight.

  49. Leela says:

I shall commence rejoicing immediately! Many, many thanks for freeing up Digger. πŸ™‚

  50. Kranja says:

OHMIGOD! I just discovered this comic like a month ago, read what was available without subscription, and spent a while wondering whether a Graphic Smash subscription was really worth it for just one comic, however GODLY EXCELLENT. Just today I decide YES, come back here, and what do I see but a new site with no subscription needed! Fate loves me today! Hugs and flowers for all!!!!
