It’s like Sam Vimes says in Night Watch(paraphrasing, so please forgive any inaccuracies): “Sometimes you see a wasp landing on a nettle, and you know something’s going to get stung, and you don’t care.”
If you look at the third panel and pretend that’s his front side, it kinda looks like he has tentacles for a face. Cthulhu’s reach spans quite the distance, I see.
I’ve re-read this a lot, but i still love this bit. It’s the way his smugness backfires.
Ok, the hyena just wanted to kill and eat Digger. Fair enough. Can’t argue with that then. But our ever so smug veiled friend really strikes me as someone who if not actually evil, then someone who does the cause of evil no harm at all. Hope he defiantly came out the worse of this encounter.

Not to mention the ‘see something that’s happening under our noses’ statement right before he gets ambushed by an angry hyena! Take that!
I think “God addled thugs” is the best term for extremist that I have found.
YAAAAY for Vimes quotes
But as a first time reader I am concerned as to why he’s hiding the winged rat
