Well, it’s not like Ed’s remains will be going anywhere (besides into the skins’ care), and afaik the hyenas don’t do anything in particular with the skin of the deceased. If the hyenas (or some portion of them) want to give Ed a proper funeral feast, they can bloody well go and drag out his corpse themselves. Or hold the feast in the caves, either way.
