Did she draw these in black on white and then invert the image? Beautiful in any case.

  2. L Gore says:

As Light cannot Exist without Shadow, Shadow cannot Exist without Light. Balance Is.
Don’t let anyone jog you elbow, or rush you Ursula, but bring this HOME.

  3. Latrone says:

    And suddenly, a bird appears.

  4. Kayru says:

That bird. That panel. SO. BEAUTIFUL.

  5. gwennan says:

Agreed, Kayru. I’d love to see just that second panel as a print (willing to buy, Ursula, hint!)

  6. Rags says:

Of course you see, that’s what light is for!

  7. slywlf says:

I am NOT looking forward to this saga ending, but at the moment am just too boggled by the sheer beauty – both artistry and story-telling – to worry about it. Digger is at #25 at the moment BTW

http://www.diggercomic.com/?p=727 said that breaking the chain would be enough to do everything necessary. So, we can be comfortable knowing that He-is and SGV are destroyed. But given how little we know about how gods die (and how/whether they are reborn), there’s no telling where the kingfisher came from.”

Thank you for posting this link – I went back a few pages and reread the whole segment – I miss Shadowchild! :`-(

  9. SongCoyote says:

The moment I saw the Kingfisher, tears sprang to my eyes. Because I remembered the story, and how sad and noble its ending.

All this way – all these strange troubles and trials and strange creatures and magic and mayhem – so as finally to be able to bring peace to a mad god who has been dying for far too long. However Digger may see the end of this, and whatever practical and/or acerbic comment she may make, this has been a touching and beautiful journey which I have been only too grateful share with its creator, its fans, and with Digger and everyone in her world.

Thank you, and peace be with you all.

    Light and laughter,
    SongCoyote

Part of me at least is still hoping that it was the liver that was keeping He-is alive, while SGV infested his heart – maybe, just maybe, destroying the heart but not the liver will set He-is free again?

  11. Achiever says:

^Woah woah woah. What’s with the tearful goodbye? Are you dying? D’:>

Also What happened to Ed? D:>

  12. Mani says:

Say, now, I know this isn’t relevant to that other story…but isn’t that the ghost of a bird?

  13. jaynee says:

Mani, the kingfisher is here: http://www.diggercomic.com/?p=693

  14. Ellemerr says:

It’s the ghostly bird of a heart! I mean… It’s the bird-shaped ghost of a heart. Or something. At least it might be.

Also, I feel a little dense for not realizing this the *first* time I read this page, but Shadowchild being born from a heart (well, the bird-shaped ghost of a heart, or the incarnation of an actual heart, or however it might work) just somehow makes so much sense!

If a sock can get enough life to accumulate shadows on its heart, really epic shadows-on-hearts should be able to get a life of their own as well.
(And now comes the question of “is there a demon out there somewhere, that was born from the heart of a dead sock?” *shifty eyes*)
