Digger

Page 650 of the comic. Lordy.

And much belatedly, let me point out that Digger is currently #70 at TopWebcomics.com, so if you wanted to go over there and vote–not neccessarily for me! There are lots of other great strips there! You don’t have to register!–it’d be awesome.

Long time lurker first time posting.

Whoa. The statue looks so mean or maybe cross in the first panel but I can’t tell much from the third (Is the sun rising or something?) it seems like he/it got hit with a lot of bright light all the sudden … probably to hide his expression …. sneaky statue (even if he was nice to Ed. Eep, what will happen to Ed with the veiled coming in a hour (it’s assumed they’re attacking but it could be something else ….. maybe). I don’t know. This is scary.

  2. Jassius says:

“I have forseen this” … “Of course I did not think it was worth mentioning” ๐Ÿ˜‰

Digger is at #65 and up now ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. Bartimaeus says:

    “About an hour.”

    Holy–

  4. Kobrag says:

Retire to a solitary room with painter-boy, before charging out to meet the veiled, dying as a warrior with the names of ‘statue’ on your lips!

  5. AlpineBob says:

Congrats on reaching page 650 and
congrats on being listed at #65.
    Hmmm, coincidence?
    Well, yah. Neat, tho…
Anyhoo. I vote for a multitude of comics at http://topwebcomics.com/, and Digger is #1 on my list, tho it be but #65 on theirs at the moment. I do recommend the site, but anyone who would like to vote for Digger without having to ‘dig’ through their list can use: http://topwebcomics.com/vote/10180/default.aspx
    Vote daily!

  6. EmperorBill says:

    Sonovacrap.
    Also: Neat-o shadows.
    But mostly SONOVACRAP!

  7. Holly says:

Ahh, I love how those two panels of Ganesh contrast, and yet he stays the same. I always love that with Ganesh.

    Also, AN HOUR? Craaaaaaap.

  8. Holly says:

Maybe they can recruit the hyenas within that hour?

  9. Mani says:

“The fatal flaw in every plan is the assumption that you know more than your enemy.”

  10. Hawk says:

    WHAT!?!?!?!!

    *panic*

  11. TekServer says:

I have further foreseen that Ganesh (the Compassionate, and by extension the Statue thereof) would never ask or want the residents of the temple to fight and die for a building and a statue. Therefore, I predict an impending evacuation, perhaps resisted by Librarian Vo because of concerns that the undefended library may come to harm.

My predictions might come from some Trickster god, though, and so should be taken with a grain (or several!) of salt …

Everybody keep VOTING! Digger is on a positively meteoric rise through TWC; my own vote just now raised it one spot from 56 to 55. Amazing, considering it was in the 200’s just a couple of weeks ago!

  12. Midnightlight05 says:

It was at #53 when I went and voted!

  13. Darth Sidious says:

Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.

  14. quiltcat says:

Now Murai’s destiny is about to be played out…

  15. Jewelwolf says:

I’m both thrilled and terrified. Terrified because of how much “not long” really is. I mean, really, usually when people say “not long now” they mean a week or two. But nooooooooo. Anyway, I’m thrilled because of Digger’s rating as a web comic. We might actually be able to get it down to the the top 50, or maybe even top 30 in a week or two. It’s shocking that we’ve gotten in so many votes in such a short time. I can’t believe it!

  16. Hunter says:

    Time for what?

  17. Jassius says:

    Digger at #49
Top 50 indeed, JewelWolf. Top 30 will be difficult, as it is 1K votes over, but there are still 4 voting days left. Who knows…

Would be fun to know how many hits are coming from the TWC referal

  18. Tindi says:

Ursula mentioned webcomic voting on her LJ as well, so I’m sure there’re a lot of people from there who just don’t comment here. It was #46 just now.
    Anyway. Comic. Ohnoes. Battle. ๐Ÿ™

  19. smjjames says:

Nice touch with the lighting making it look like a change of emotion or tone between the two panels. Ganesh is serious one moment and then suddendly he acts, dunno, something, and I can almost picture him actually smiling.

  20. Diggers friends that are in a position to help. Ganesh, Ed, Grimeyes, Shirka and the Trolls, The Hag, Hearn??? He’s Kind of a Han Solo, I have my own problems kind of guy. Perhaps she’ll get helped out by the Vampiric Squash again or maybe th Squash take no side. Of course there is Shadolescent or is she a full Shadult by now?

  21. Steelcat says:

    I voted ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Gillsing says:

I didn’t even know Digger was on TWC. I shall add it to my long list of TWC vote links, which I go through every day (unless I miss a day). Adding one of those little blue vote buttons to the website might help those of us who look specifically for that blue button.

  23. Lachesis says:

    interesting….

after i voted, Digger was at #47. when i clicked link to come back and mention this, i got sent to a *different* comic – because Digger was now #46!

    VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Old Prof. Otter says:

    So, retreat routes…
    Well, theres that hole…
The library may have stout doors and a way to bar them, but that will only delay stuff.

  25. Jewelwolf says:

Is anyone else wondering why the temple is always lite this way? It’s always so… dim.

Digger is now #46. This is just… wow. Does this normally happen with web comics?

  26. nano2ba says:

No it doesn’t usually happen. Phoenix Requiem and Twokinds seem glued to the top one and two ranks, for example.

I’ve always thought that this comic is technically very much like Black Tapestries in drawing skills and storyline complexity, and I’m glad that it’s getting recognition.

  27. slywlf says:

    I just voted – Digger is at 44 ๐Ÿ˜‰

  28. JewelWolf says:

It’s great this is getting recognignition, you’re right. It deserves it. I’ve tried out Twokinds. It’s actually pretty good, and considering th population of furries out there willing to vote for it from every ip address in their school computer lab, it’s no wonder it’s staying up there at the top. I wonder why I found Digger when I searched “furry comics” instead of that…

  29. Mark Antony says:

    43!!!

The temple is often kind of dim because the light inside is incredibly bright, which causes the areas where there isn’t light to be really dark. That’s why Shadowchild couldn’t go in before. The light burned him and the darkness was so thick that eating them was like trying to drink the ocean.

  30. JewelWolf says:

Really? I don’t remember that… when was that?

  31. Seaspray says:

I always though, Shadowchild being a demon and all, that this was more metaphorical… Him being used to mortal ‘light’ and their darkness. Divine light and dark is always much, much stronger than anything mortal.

If he’d been there when Ganesh himself took residence of the statue, it might have killed him I bet ๐Ÿ˜›

  32. Kayru says:

You guys, Digger’s falling back down the lists! Put it in your favorites and vote daily! Tell people about it! You know she deserves to be at least in the top 50 (she deserves more, but she BETTER be in the top 50 at least!) by the time this ends!!!

  33. Jassius says:

@JewelWolf – Found it. Finally! (I didn’t remember that one).

  35. TekServer says:

Good find, Jassius, and thank you for saving my OCD from an archive dive! ๐Ÿ˜‰

And Kayru, I wouldn’t worry TOO much about the TWC ranking. We just rolled over to a new month, so all the ranks have been reset. There will be a lot of shuffling in the ranks for the next week or so, as some comics have first-of-the-month surges while others get votes at steady rates, or in surging patterns based on updates or incentives. I’m sure Digger will settle back into the top 50 soon …

  36. BunnyRock says:

Voted. And, I am very sorry to say, I have just caught up. Oh that comforting mass of archive, How I miss thee! It seems strange. Like the game I play. I black out all my clocks after about 20:00 and play a game called “eternal night. The rules are simple: If i cannot see any timepiece, then under that rules proposed by Schrodinger time is both passing and not passing at the same time. This i can stay up as long as I like and sill get a full 18 hours sleep. mere factual inconsistencies such as sunlight, birds, the time of posting displayed on my comments here (you will not believe how hard it is to willingly suppress/forget the time difference between London and the Carolina’s when GMT- Eastern Seaboard/everywhere else in the world conversions were route-remembrance learning forced on you at age fourteen by over-ambitious carers) and my flatmates alarm that he believes goes of at 07:00 every morning can be safely ignored.

Strangely it works. I have blocked out my clocks every evening since my Master’s Dissertation was due in, and slept wonderfully for who knows ho short with no problems. I have no clue how little sleep I survive on week to week, and it is only when inconsiderate blackguards insist on telling me that I feel tired. This probably say far more than is safe to know about mankind powers of willing self delusion. Likewise so long As I had not caught up I could convince myself that there was an endless pool of Digger just waiting for me to dive into (anyone with the least training in Freudian psychology please do not think about that metaphor: I certainly didnโ€™t) and that TekServerโ€™s repeated jaunts though the infinite archive were due to OCD forcing him to stop before he caught up and come back (something I did several times, due to a combination of OCD and dyslexia. I know I have made spelling mistakes and spell-check substitution errors, and sometimes I get up in the middle of the night, or at least what I presume is the middle of the night as I have no way of telling, to hunt then down again on Digger and TV tropes and wince at the ones on Digger that I cannot change. Itโ€™s bizarrely cathartic, somehow knowing exactly where you went un-fixably wrong is comforting, and my archaeologists personality certainly enjoys the thrill of a very boring hunt), and so could safely be ignored as they did not prove the archive was finite. How wrong was I. Besides, who wouldnโ€™t trawl the archive several times: now Iโ€™ve caught up that may well end up as my chief thrill in life, besides digging up and discussing the squishy bits of archaeology.

  37. TekServer says:

Well, BR, – and I almost hesitate to suggest this – if you want to wait a little while before your next jaunt through the Digger archives, you could always start an archive binge on another webcomic. I think you might enjoy The Dreamland Chronicles (http://www.thedreamlandchronicles.com/).

Also, if you subscribe to the “Digger Comments” RSS feed, you’ll get alerted anytime anyone posts a comment anywhere in the archives, which can be a fun way to tag along with someone else’s archive binge as they post comments …

  38. BunnyRock says:

TY, Ts. binging on the archive now. But i may skip on the RSS feed. It’ll remove the fun of rummaging though the archive. I’m still an archaeologist, i like to look nearly as much as to find.

  39. Tindi says:

Y’know, possibly all three of us need help. Maybe more of us who just don’t comment. Still. Fourth time through, full-clear in progress, and I agree with BunnyRock that it’s just too much fun to go all the way through. I go through it again partly for the new comments. ๐Ÿ™‚
