  1. mouse says:

i don’t like the fact that it seems to be taking ed and digger a few seconds to recognize each other…it suggests that ed, at least, is somewhat less recognizable.

but about the worst think i can imagine jhalm doing to ed is to paint over all the stuff he has done in his cave -well, that would be a lot of work, maybe he burned him out (can you burn someone out of a cave?) – or in any event, that he destroyed all the painting ed has done, all the stories he has told himself in his cave.

  2. Rhio2k says:

Oh god…Ed’s been blinded, hasn’t he?

  3. dreysabriel says:

On a somewhat different note… did Digger make it back within the month before trader manuel came back? still not sure how much time this journey took.
Also- Jhalm has officially graduated from slippery, ambiguous adviser, to totalitarian evil Grand Visier in evil status. Here’s your diploma and cardboard hat, dickwad.

  4. KNO3 says:

    Rhio2k or worse.

Digger needs to have the statue declare Jhalm a renegade or one of the possessed otherwise it’s going to get really ugly.

  5. Silverfish says:

    I second Tek’s motion.
Particularly the “servitude to the hag” bit. >3

  6. Mark Antony says:

@Mani: The thing that makes Jhalm reprehensible is not the fact that he’s hurt the hyenas or that he’s made Digger’s life difficult. It’s the fact that he does not make any attempt to understand any other perspective or even attempt to distinguish between guilty and innocent. The cold servants are hyenas, yes, but that is no justification for him to go harass the hyenas that have had nothing to do with it. It most certainly gives him no justification for hurting Ed, a lone exile who has never done anything to him. It’s the difference between killing a soldier on the field of battle and killing an unarmed civilian. Thus far, most of what Jhalm has done has not been too heinous and is generally forgivable, but hurting Ed would be crossing the line.

  7. TB Tabby says:

We’re all so sure that Jhalm has crossed the Moral Event Horizon…and we’re not even sure what it is he did.

  8. Mark Antony says:

Of course. All forms of torture to be inflicted upon Jhalm are at the moment completely hypothetical and contingent upon his actually having crossed it. Schoedinger’s thumbscrews are for now unobserved and therefore both exist and do not exist.

  9. TekServer says:

    > Schoedinger’s thumbscrews

Congratulations, you have just created a new magic item for my gaming world (if I ever run a game again … )

Don’t forget, everyone, that you can VOTE for Digger on TopWebComics every day, whether there is an update here or not! http://topwebcomics.com/vote/10180/default.aspx

(And @Ursula: have you considered uploading one of your many fabulous creations to TWC as a vote incentive? For example, the pages of “Irrational Fears” would make great vote incentives, require little effort, and make a creative way to introduce Digger fans to your other work, if they’re not already familiar with it … )

  10. Mark Antony says:

I wonder what the Ahuitzotl trade the teeth and nails for? It said itself that they don’t have much in the way of material possessions beyond eyeballs, and they eat those. Oh, and rocks, but they all have plenty of rocks.

  11. Brenna says:

Jhalm, you kitten-kicking scumbag, whatever you did, you’ve just earned yourself a pickaxe-rochambeau.

  12. KNO3 says:

And TekServer which game system would you run Schoedinger’s thumbscrews in pray tell?

  13. Areetsasaurus says:

Well… That was unexpected. Well, not really.

The problem is that EVERY TIME Ed appears, Ursula does this.
In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out the worst thing that happened to Ed was spilling his paints over himself. It’s the sort of thing she’d do, working up all this tension and then shattering it.

  14. Areetsasaurus says:

Well, I’m off to read the archives again.

  15. TekServer says:

    > And TekServer which game system would you run Schoedinger’s thumbscrews in pray tell?

That’s a good question. I’m thinking they’d fit best in Rifts.

    😉

  16. BunnyRock says:

*sigh* There are times when it’s no consolation to be right on the money. i new it would go badly for Ed. I just knew it.

As for the good captain. Provided it hurts no one unjustly and no-one i like, may he achieve exactly that which he seeks. That’s at the top of an old (Chinese i think) trilogy of curses, above “May you live in interesting times” and “may you come to the attention of those with great power” So very few people seek what they need or what is good for them. so many seek what they want. getting exactly what you set out to get and realising only then why you were wrong and having to live with your gilt and failure? that’s about what i would wish on him.

and as for the “hurts no one unjustly and no-one i like” bit, I’m not stupid: you’ve got to word curses carefully, lest you get exactly what you sought from them…

  17. BunnyRock says:

Oh, and mouse, It is posible to burn people put of caves. If they have only one opening you can do a lot of damage with fire; you don’t even need to fill it with smoke, sufficient heat will crack the walls or make the air unbreathable: the are legends from Flores, investigated because it’s posible but unlikely they relate to a folk memory about Homo floresiensis, detailing how the people of Flores dealt with a (probably mythical but possibly Homo floresiensis) race of cave-dwelling pygmies who stole their crops by giving them gifts of cloth and then when the pygmies took it to their cave shooting fire arrow’s into the cloth to smoke then out. and that’s by no means the only example I’ve come across from various archaeological sources.
