Merry Xmas!

Merry Xmas!

Troll carols all tend to fall in this format. Fortunately, very few of them can carry a tune anyway, so if one is singing “Graw! The Herald Angels Sing” and another is singing “Graw to the World” and the third one is attempting to belt out “It Came Upon A Midnight Graw” they all sound more or less the same.

The important thing is that everybody has a good time and there is lots of troll-nog. No one is quite sure what is in troll-nog, and research suffers a inexplicable lack of volunteers.

Anyway, merry holiday of your choice to all–for me, it will be “Eat Chinese Takeout and Play Dragon Age:Origins Day”–and Digger will be off for two weeks, and return in the glorious new decade!

I am *SO* showing up to my next LARP event with a bottle marked ‘Troll Nog’….

  2. Some Chick says:

I take it this one is “Jingle Graws”?

  3. Lurkerlynne says:

This reminds me of a D&D campaign wherein one player had a drink called “the Stuff”- nobody was quite sure what it was but it was served in thimbles and was to be (delicately) sipped. A player joined us partway in and his dwarf character scoffed at the so-called ‘potency’ of the Stuff and quaffed it.

Game was delayed until his character came to four days later, game time. XD

Looking forward to the new decade!

  4. inlaid says:

Merry Christmas/”Eat chinese takeout and play dragon age:origins day” to both Ursula and Digger. Have fun.

  5. HarenaAtria says:

Merry Whatevermas to you & Kevin & Digger & sundry trolls, Ursula! Hope it’s a good’un for you & the Chinese foodings are delicious! ^_^

  6. Eliza says:

Hee. Glad to see I’m not the only person glued to ‘Dragon Age’. Two thirty in the morning, and I’m barely prying myself off. Best humor in an RPG ever. 🙂

  7. SirEel says:

…I think he’s singing Jingle Graws, or possibly Graw Bells

  8. Scott Malcomson says:

    Have a great vacation!

  9. Barry says:

    Two weeks?!? (Sigh.)
Nobody can say you don’t deserve it, Ursula. But you’re killing us here!

  10. Loren says:

Enjoy your holiday! I’ll try to contain my impatience, in the meantime.

Thanks for all you’ve done, and best wishes for a healthy and prosperous new year.

  11. Farmist says:

i HATE cliff-hangers, but have a good vacation and a Merry Christmas!

  12. Treesong says:

Cliffhanger? Nobody’s in immediate danger of death or dismemberment. I wanted to thank Ursula *not* pausing at a cliffhanger. Thank you, Ursula.

  13. Luna says:

    *hugs Ursula*
Merry ECTPDAOD (Eat Chinese Takeout and Play Dragon Age:Origins Day)! ^^

  14. Hawk says:

Hope you have the happiest of nearly-pagan festivals Ursula! I’ll miss Digger being gone two whole weeks, but I’ll just have to comfort myself with re-reading the archives. It won’t be a waste of time!

And thank you for this most wonderful work of heart you give us twice a week. It’s been an amazing ride and I can’t wait to see where you take us all next!

    Wind to thy wings!

  15. TekServer says:

Merry Christmas to all, in whatever way you choose to celebrate (or not celebrate)!

  16. TekServer says:

Oh, and don’t forget to vote for Digger daily on Top Web Comics!
    http://topwebcomics.com/vote/10180/default.aspx

    😉

  17. Elizabeth says:

Ursula, I have to tell you. I got the books for christmas, and it has been wonderful re-reading the comic in the printed format. I’m getting so much more out of it the second time through.

  18. BigFuzzyChris says:

    troll-nog.
    Ogod. awesome.

  19. Rowan says:

That picture is becoming my computer wallpaper NOW. Happy Holidays Ursula, and to our lovely community of commenters.

  20. JewelWolf says:

Man… Hey guys, I just have to say this before I forget: I went to an Indian resteraunt recently and they had a statue of Ganesh there. I almost wanted to talk to it.

  21. Noelley B says:

I think that SirEel is right, it seems pretty obvious to me that the troll is singing “Jingle Graw,” but then, I can’t carry a tune, either, so maybe that helps?

Happy Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, Ursula!

  22. Raidell says:

Well, “Deck the Halls” does say to “troll the ancient Yule tide carol”! Have a happy Eat Chinese Takeout and Play Dragon Age:Origins Day, Ursula! ^_^

  23. KNO3 says:

Oh! what fun it is to ride
    In a one-horse open sleigh…

    Every body now!

  24. Mark Antony says:

Merry Christmas everyone! Ursula, thank you so much for putting our hearts at ease regarding Ganesh and the temple before your vacation.

@JewelWolf I would’ve talked to it, if only to see the looks on people’s faces around me. Besides, how awesome would it be if it talked back?

  25. JewelWolf says:

@Mark Antony I wanted to, but it was above a booth and people were eating there. I didn’t want to scoot into their booth just to talk to a statue. I love Ganesh, but not that much.

  26. Kayru says:

    Looks like he’s singing Jingle Graws. ^^;

And as terrible as it may be for me, I’m very curious to try some Troll Nog.

  27. slywlf says:

Finally caught up on my first run through!… just in time for two weeks off!??!! I may have to go back and do it all over again, since I stopped reading the comments partway through, and some of the discussions are priceless! Merry Christmas, belated Happy Solstice and Happy New Years to all!

  28. Graw!

    Merry Whatever! 🙂

  29. Skydancer says:

Technically, decades and centuries and millennia begin in the years ending in ‘1’, not ‘0’…

  30. It’s obviously “Graw-graw graw”, heathens. Mutter, grumble, everyone with a decent video card has gone cyber-pagan this year…

  31. Hannah says:

    Graw-Graw Ooo la la la

    …sorry. Happy Holidays Ursula.

  32. Sandlord says:

But…you *can’t* leave, all the plants’ll die! Or turn vampiric or something.

In all seriousness, a pleasant Festihannukwanzaamas to you and yours, Ursula!

  33. Nivm says:

And yet I still wonder why anyone plays Dragon Age:Origins when Dwarf Fortress:Slaves to Armok is around.

  34. Kayru says:

@Skydancer: Depends on whether you counted the first year as 1 or 0.

  35. Kate says:

This makes me unreasonably happy. Thank you!

  36. Mark Antony says:

@Kayru: But there is no year 0. It just goes from 1 BC to 1 AD. If 1 AD is counted as the first year, the one thousandth year is 1001, not 1000. However, you can count 1 BC as the 0th year, in which case the millennium would start on 1000.

  37. Phyrbyrd says:

Happy Winterval, Ursula! Hope you have a good one!

  38. KNO3 says:

    Online caroling is so lonely…

    Ah well…

  39. WorkingVolition says:

    Merry Christmas To All!
And To All A Good Night!
    🙂

  40. JewelWolf says:

Merry Christmas guys. I’d like to say to everyone, on this day, “Enjoy your Chinese takeout, and God bless us, every one.”

  41. Rags says:

    GRAW!

  42. I got Jingle bells out of the various Graws! This is an amazing cartoon. I read the strip from cover to cover the first time. The second time I read this strip I read it with all the commentary. It’s like Digger herself. You’ve got all this amazing gold on the surface, with this strip I mean, and then there’s all the riches you get by digging deeper and seeing everyone’s comments. I’ve gotten to respect people like TekServer and many others. I forget where certain people started posting, but this really a cool place in a very cool corner of Cyberspace. Good job.

  43. My computer has been in the shop for some time. My wife has a laptop that’s pretty good, but I try not to do a whole lot with it being hers and all. I tend to do most of my Digger reading at work and they don’t like us to e-mail outside our office. For weeks I’d read comments left by other forum folk, and I’d say, to the computer, “That’s just what I was thinking” None of you could hear me. It was like I Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer. I couldn’t play in any of the reindeer games. I was sad :(. My computer is back and now I can play too! 🙂

  44. I must apologize to Ursula. You see I absolutely fell in love with Irrational Fears to the point that I wished she’d keep going. It looked like she was going to do the entire alphabet of nightmares. I saw that she’d gotten past A which was the Ahuizotl, and B was the monster under the Bed. Then there were no more. I figured that C must be clown because Clowns can be pretty scary….Anyway just last year I found Digger, and I was absolutely stunned by each character right down to the various lizards and things in the background. I love this cartoon.

  45. My wife and I went to ComiCon, for the first time, last summer, in San Diego. Would you believe I didn’t know who Will Eisner was before ComiCon 2009. It’s like the first time I had every heard the phrase, “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Clause.” I was in College. I had never heard the story before. Once I had heard that phrase it was everywhere that Christmas. Same thing with Will Eisner. He was suddenly on everything I was reading about Comic history. Consequently, I learned about the Eisner award and found out that Ursula was up for it in 2006. The more I have read Digger the more I think who could possibly compete against this lady and this world. Thanks for the past year. Oh I knew I was hooked to this comic when I stubbed my toe on the edge of the bed and cursed, “Blood and Shale!”

  46. Sorry I know I’m posting alot here, but this is the first time I’ve been able to from my own computer. Yea for free speech!!! I’m done. Thanks.

  47. Hunter says:

    Lol.

  48. Skydancer says:

Found Dragonbreath at Borders, and had to pick it up. For my niece. Honest. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. (Whattaya mean, why’d I read it before wrapping it up?)

Heehee! Great fun, little Danny. Looking forward to buying my niece the sequel.

  49. KNO3 says:

    Cool. Happy New Years Everyone!
