Time to renew the romance…Grim Eyes doting on Herne was rather cute, treating him like an inferior male, but showing affection by constantly trying to help him as if he were clueless. I wonder if any of the party (or even Herne) suspected what was going on…
I don’t think she’s has any use for pockets yet. She’s carried everything in her paws until now, except her pickax, whic can ge put on her back when she doesn’t need it. It’s not really a pocket item when it comes down to it.
Of course her vest has pockets! Why else would she wear one?
Well, normally, I mean. I understand she might want a bit of extra insulation up here in the snow & mountains. But she’s had the vest since the beginning, so it must be practical in virtually any weather (as practicality would be the defining characteristic of any wombat garment or accessory). Pockets would be a necessary aspect of garment practicality (because small items are usually easier to retrieve from a pocket than a backpack); ergo, the vest has pockets – we just haven’t actually witnessed Digger use them yet.
It’s hard to tell how much time has passed in the comic, since we’ve spent so many weeks reading it. How long were they up there? How long has it been since Murai fell?
i’m thinking digger means murai’s arm will probably be healed, for good or ill, by the time they get back…not that anything will need to be lopped off. but i’ll bet grim eyes does know what she’s doing – people who do as much hunting and fighting as hyenas do probably have a lot of practice patching people up.
Digger is a female marsupial, which means she’s got a biologic pouch or pocket. Might be uncomfortable to carry hard objects though, as her teats are there.
I believe she’s stuck her hands in her vest pockets one or two times, which is doubtless more comfortable than sticking them in her natural pouch. Also, wombat pouches face backwards. Given Digger’s frequent use of bipedality, this would mean that gems and sundry other oddities stuck in the pouch would often fall out, so a pair of upright pockets would be preferable for when she doesn’t want to keep taking her backpack off and putting it back on.
c0ntrary: Wow, yeah. My mom often puts her keys into her bra, between her teats, and I don’t know how she can stand it (even with one being a fake to replace one lost to cancer). Sheesh!
Sammi: interesting fact about the wombat pouch. And Kangaroos are upright (muchly), and have their pouches facing forward/up. Hmmmm … evolutionary thought … makes me wonder if the species (plural) had members, some with pouches facing front and some with pouches facing back, once long ago, and if pouches facing the most convenient way helped individuals survive/reproduce, leaving us with current evolutions. Wombats staying down on all fours presented an easier path from the birth canal to the pouch, and its benefits, if the pouch opened closer to the birth canal. And once Kangaroos started standing up, babies fell out of the pouch less often when the pouches faced up (even if it was a longer climb in the first place). Related speculations or real info, anyone?
On the evolution point much of the early inage of marsuplais was preditory and walked on all fours. Kageroos are a relitavly late addition so i would imagin that the “backwards” configuration is the original one, but i have no idea.
I think the first time we saw Digger with her hands in her pockets was just after she first met the Shadowchild. she certainly had them in her pockets after grim Eyes attacked Jhalm as Digger, in accordance with age old tradition, indicated it was none of her problem by walking away head held high, whistling, with her hands in her pockets. Interestingly we have never seen her put anything into them other than her hands, no take anything out of them which raises the question whats it’s gots in its pockets, Precious? *
* You have no idea how many attempts it takes someone as dyslexic as i am to spell that word. spellcheck kept trying to change it to “preshrunk”
So I guess it would be bad form to point out your misspellings of marsupials, predatory, kangaroos, relatively, imagine, and whatever “inage” was supposed to be (image? stage?). 😉
I am, of course, just ribbing you. The content of your posts always makes it worthwhile for even a grammar obsessive such as myself to overlook any minor spelling/grammar errors.
Well no self respecting geologist I know goes on the field without a type of jacket that is covered in pockets, mine has 10 and it’s a bad one. The jacket does little else, it isn’t warm, it isn’t stylish (ok only in a few select group with an unhealthy attraction to either rocks or things that have been dead for a really long time), it is simply a vehicle for carrying pockets. Given Digger geologist background yeah you can bet her jacket has pockets, dozens of them.
Herne looks less surprised, more satisfied/relieved that nobody died, at least to me anyway
First!
HERNE!!!!
I hope Murai’s arm will be okay…
Maybe the hag will just have to lop something off. Didn’t she say that’s what she usually has to do?

Oh I hope not.
But getting *back* ought to be as much fun as getting there was!!
(woo second post)
But not nearly as fun without shadow child…
Does Digger’s jacket have pockets?

…
Oh, hi Herne! Welcome back to the storyline.
😉

Didn’t she keep the fossil from the beginning?
I bet her vest does have pockets, then.
Herne actually looks kind of disappointed that they’re alive. Lol.
I actually thought he looked kind of pleased.

Not sure where she carries her light…
TekServer “Of course her vest has pockets! Why else would she wear one?”
Cuz she used to have a bust, then she got a redesign.
Uh, guys? She’s got a backpack. Maybe pockets too, but she’s had a backpack from the outset. 🙂

I guess that’s true. She seems like the kind of person who prefers comtrable and practical.
@ c0ntrary
Diggers pouch would be facing the “wrong” way what with her being a wombat and all.
Stuff woud fall out.
Wombats are burrowing animals so their pouch face back between their hind legs.
I believe she’s stuck her hands in her vest pockets one or two times, which is doubtless more comfortable than sticking them in her natural pouch. Also, wombat pouches face backwards. Not being dead is good news. Generally.

I suspect that “inage” was meant to be “lineage”.
