    Uh-oh.

  2. Aria says:

    Do shadowchildren sleep?

  3. BarGamer says:

    I hope Shadowchild doesn’t eat Digger! T_T

  4. mikemayday says:

    Cue the Jaws theme music.

  5. Lanthir says:

Why do I have a vaguely ominus feling about the last panel?

  6. CasCat says:

Does Shadowchild even know what sleep *is*?

  7. Terry says:

Ominous. This comic has it. 0.0

  8. theysabet says:

Weirdly enough, *I* thought the last panel was rather cute– Digger and her adopted child, both out for the night.

  9. alondro says:

*and the shadow said* And now to eat some soulies! >:3

  10. motub says:

I wonder if Shadowchild’s snacking will wake Digger up… if there’s no shadows, then it’ll get awfully bright in there in a hurry, right? She *is* really tired, but maybe not *that* tired.

I’m sure that Shadowchild won’t “hurt”/eat Digger by accident– it is very proud of being “very careful”, after all– but if it does wake her up, it will probably be very sorry.

But I wonder what will be revealed now that the room’s concealing shadows are warming Shadowchild’s … belly… or whatever it has…

  11. Spizzy says:

shadow child is channel edward cullen

  12. Spizzy says:

channeling ** if I knew how to spell -_-

  13. Vert says:

Digger has just agreed to kill something (2 somethings, possibly) that we know can talk: a god, and its attendant demon. Digger has eaten someone who could talk once before. Shadowchild may well be wondering whether Digger is evil. I don’t want to think about what would happen if he decided that she was.

  14. Aelfwine says:

Interesting. I did find the last panel a bit ominous–am looking forward to seeing if the next comic will fulfill the ominousness or knock it down.

  15. inlaid says:

Hats off to you ursula it’s the attention to detail that gets me every time: “sleep through a mine colapse.” In common usage “sleep through a thunderstorm” but you thought it through. I believe a recall a comment from a long time ago that you wanted to write a comic the way Terry Pratchett would (something about footnotes perhaps?) and I have to say that I feel you’re going in the right direction. Well done – you remain my favourite comic in the web.

  16. Brenna says:

Maybe Shadowchild’s recent snack is giving it indigestion?

  17. KNO3 says:

Nah, more like what’s sleep? And am I?

  18. jomiller says:

Is a shadow child poised against a background of shadows really ominous, or rather would you even notice?

  19. Oscelot says:

Entertainingly, that last panel doesn’t fill me with dread… it just makes me wonder what kind of question shadowchild is going to wake Digger up with.

  20. Tindi says:

I think it’s the tentacles that make it ominous…

  21. Tindi says:

    Oh, and @ Spizzy: I don’t see Shadowchild sparkling… 😉

  22. Mavericke says:

I like the light / texture effect of the wallstones in the first panel very much.

  23. Kayru says:

I know Shadowchild wouldn’t hurt Digger, but gosh, that panel makes me scared… O.o

  24. Fred Davis says:

But digger can’t talk right now!

  25. Fred Davis says:

Of course the more important question, that may save everyone a lot of trouble in the long run if digger can think of a way to find out an answer, is whether gods and demons have shadows…

  26. Beacon80 says:

No! Woe is me! I caught up! :'(

  27. ottertee says:

    I still say “uh-oh.”

Maybe nobody else noticed that the name of the image includes the word “ominous”?

  28. Iain says:

“Digger? Digger? Can you talk Digger?”

  29. AnonyGirl says:

So … lain has my thought precisely. When Digger sleeps, does “Digger? Digger? Can you talk Digger?” get her shadow eaten? How literal would Shadowchild be in interpreting the original instruction in this case, and how eager to eat Digger’s shadow anyway? Can you imagine the following as plausible? “Digger could talk before. But not now. Hmmm. Is it safe to eat Digger’s shadow now?” … And of course Digger’s name could be replaced with anybody’s.

(“hey Underwear! i found its mouth. why won’t Sock talk to me?”)

  31. JET73L says:

    duh-duhn…
    Duh-duhn…
    DUH-duhn…
“HEY DIGGER I FOUND YOUR PICKAXE!”

I did wonder what the result would be when Shadowchild scarpered before Digger could finish discussing conditional talking with it.
