Yup. Weirdness that just got worse and worse the harder she tried to get herself out of it. And that’s just the beginning of the explanation. Thus cements the derailment of Murai and the ghost’s epic scene. Upstaged by wombats… muahahahaha!

  2. Kevinbunny says:

“Oh. Crud. You went in the back way, didn’t you?”

  3. Colt45ws says:

I wonder if he knows the way home. If he has heard of and had a son marry into diggers clan, it isnt improbable.

  4. Rhan says:

Wait, did Helix specify undead gods and their acolytes? How shortsighted of him.

  5. Rhan says:

Also, is that a cravat he’s wearing?

  6. Haven says:

“You know, the one that says ‘look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair’? Those things NEVER disappear!”

  7. Ysabet says:

Wow, *cranky* spectral wombat. Helix oughta know, no job EVER goes to spec– it’s sort of the engineer’s motto. But now I want to see the gigantic carved staircase; bet it’s nice work. ^___^

  8. Kelci says:

Poor Digger. She totally would have turned around if she had read that plaque, of that, I am sure. It’s also very wombat-like to leave an eight foot high warning sign 😀

  9. Joan says:

    I smell a way home for Digger…

  10. Brenda says:

Don’t forget, she was high at the time…

  11. Jassius says:

Helix aka Carver-Of-Wise-Stay-Away-Warning-Signs-Noboby-Ever-Cares-About. Seems evident that was the same wombat who left the warning on the dying god’s shackel a thousand years ago.

“If you got ropen into fixing this, then ancestors help you”

  13. tiggertoo says:

I think a few things changed over the 1,000 years since Helix was there. If Digger tells Helix her whole story, I have to wonder if wombats get migraines – because Helix will be due.

  14. Cheri says:

I love it when vague foreshadowing plays out so subtly, no one picks up on it until they’re meant to.

I’m literally smiling ear to ear at the moment.

  15. lemonysundrops says:

now when will shadowchild pop up and say something adorable?

  16. pseudo says:

That’s a nice ‘Donate’ button you have there… I don’t want your book, but do want to conveniently support you. Thanks for considering my special needs.

  17. abb3w says:

“If you got roped into fixing this, then ancestors help you”

…hm; in the vicinity of a Dead God, that’s almost as poorly worded as “I wish I could have met him”.

  18. Ursula says:

    *grin* We aim to please!

  19. Rista-liehna says:

    Jassius, that… that’s… brilliant!
“If you got roped into fixing this, then ancestors help you”
Ancestors help her, indeed… hee hee hee…

  20. BunnyRock says:

Proof that when writing warning as well as reading them or replying to them, your exact wording matters so think this though carefully. The Universe has a scene of humor, do not bait it.

  21. JET73L says:

“Blood and shale, they ignored my warning-plaque /and/ my staircase? It was going to be a nice staircase, too.”

I find it interesting that Helix left the ammonite as a sort of signiature, if that is the ammonite to which he refers, though I do wonder why it was bespelled if that was his ammonite.

  22. Ellemerr says:

    >We aim to please!

Well, that’s certainly working out awesomely. I know that I, at least, am very, /very/ much pleased. I’m hard pressed to see any other way I could be more pleased. Judging by the comments, I’m not alone.

I don’t believe in perfection, but if I did, Digger would likely be my definition of it.

@JET73L, I think you’re confusing Helix with Digger. In the last panel, Digger is mentioning the ammonite. The best tell-tale sign is the white-instead-of-gray-ness, though the earring and the black snout are sure hints as well. Helix does not mention any ammonite on this page.
Alternatively, I’m just reading you wrongly and confusing myself. It’s been known to happen.

  23. Mental Mouse says:

If he didn’t want anybody to come in… why did he leave a staircase? Eh, didn’t matter anyhow.
