  1. Lica says:

I said it the first time around, and I’ll say it again… Oh, Ed….

  2. Wow. Just…wow. I’m captivated by this story.

  3. D.W. Drang says:

The saddest part of this tragedy is that, in real life, so few “Eds” have the same epiphany. Or do anything about it.

  4. Jelis says:

My heart /aches/ for Ed here.

  5. lukjad007 says:

    Oh, poor, poor Ed. 🙁

  6. Jon says:

The thing that makes me feel worst for him is that he managed to tell this whole story without trailing off, needing to regain his composure. And it’s clearly not because he’s told it so many times before…which means…I don’t know what it means. But it’s gotta be horrible.

  7. Terry says:

I think it’s that there’s not even the allowance of remorse. The name was eaten, the identity was eaten, and he-that-was-skin-painter is not even allowed to feel the pain of what happened.

  8. BunnyRock says:

    ….
    Oh Ed.

The worst bit now is looking back. Spoilers aside, When the Cold servants came and Grim-eyes came and warned Digger, that shot of Ed looking as Grim-Eyes and Digger leaving, as far as he knew for ever. I didn’t get it first time, but once we met Grim-Eyes aunt, i got it and my heart broke. long before i saw this page, i think i knew we were coming here. and i wanted it to be different for Ed. truly, i did.

    But it’s not.

  10. Sammi says:

Grim Eyes had some good blood on her father’s side. 😀

  11. FixerofBrokenThings says:

To love someone that much, that you can see they would ask for death if they could, for the sake of their child, to sacrifice everything you have in this world for the life of another, truly this is the essence of love.

  12. Sildraug says:

You know it’s bad when not even Tek stops posting grins.

  13. Sildraug says:

Wait, whoops. Reverse that. When even Tek stops posting grins.

  14. Lica says:

After reading this again (and again and again and again??), something that stayed with me were the last two lines. The most terrible thing was how easy it was to kill her, to finish her life… no struggling, no fight, just a bite in the right place and she’s gone… i don’t know, i can’t quite put it into words, but something’s there…

  15. Naler says:

    Ed…

  16. Tindi says:

He still loved her, Lica. I think it hurt because iti was so easy to end it all, and it shouldn’t have been easy. It shouldn’t have happened at all. Also, with all the honor hyenas go into, the fact that he had to kill her dishonorably probably got to him a lot more than he’s capable of saying.

  17. Ryn says:

It shouldn’t be so easy to rip his own liver out….

  18. Kisame says:

I can’t decide if I agree or disagree with eds decision,

  19. jaynee says:

Anyone who thinks that Ed acted dishonourably hasn’t thought past the first level of what is meant by honour. Or (like Ed himself) has been damaged already.

  20. Tindi says:

I’m not saying there was no honor in what Ed did. I’m saying, in his own eyes, the WAY he had to kill her had no honor. The way your cultural background affects you is so deep, sometimes you don’t even realize that what you’re thinking is due to how you grew up. What Ed did, in my opinion, was the only thing he COULD have done. That doesn’t change the fact that it was a terrible thing, and, by the customs he was raised in, more terrible still. I said it when he made the decision: He did for his child what he could not do for himself. He knew he couldn’t get the little one away from her mother, so he got her mother away from her.

  21. Labelleizzy says:

    oh, oh, Ed.

    Wow.

  22. Claire says:

    ow….

  23. Elkian says:

I’m betting the little one is Grim Eyes…

  24. Weyrkat says:

This page is the one that -always- gives me chills, no matter how many times I read it. And it’s more potent in an online format, because you don’t see at first, you have to read and then scroll down, and then…

    Yeah. Chills. -Every- time.

  25. Squeegy says:

    Sigh…
