By the way Rowan, I think it says more about Grim Eyes personally than Hyena society in general. We don’t know how widespread this opinion is, and there’s nothing to suggest that the other Hyenas feel about the matter.
It makes sense. Like the name thing. What Ed was couldn’t have just called himself a name because it didn’t have a name. He needed to be named, even if it wasn’t in a way that was acceptable to the other hyenas, to have a name. Ridged Skull’s death was done by a person, in hyena terms, and prey (or very nearly prey) killing the murderers takes it out of the hyena loop, and killing the (very nearly) prey would be like trying to avenge another person by killing a deer that killed their murderer in a hunting accident. …I’m not explaining this very well, it’s all just ending up as a reiteration of what Grim Eyes is saying, and not communicating the idea I understood. One of the drawbacks of not being a species of telepaths. It is, and saying it isn’t not only doesn’t make it so, it also means that since Grim Eyes was saying what wasn’t, other people might, too? Grarg, filtering ideas that haven’t been acknowledged by the English language through words is so frustrating, and none of the other languages on which I am fluent, rusty, or dabbling have the proper terminology, as far as I know. A Scandinavian language, maybe, or one of the African languages from one or a few cultures of which I have read. @BunnyRock, and I’m nearly 1/4 joking, does Anglo have the right words for what is, what isn’t, and saying lies being wrong beyond incorrectness or morality?

I do wonder if Digger being declared an honorary person would retroactively declare Ridged Skull to be avenged, at least if Digger was declared a person for who she is rather than some one thing she had done (as it should be, in my opinion, her self making her capable of doing whatever would hypothetically give her the right to honorary personhood).
