  1. Richard says:

That’s something you just can’t unsee. And they’re so adorable, who’d want to! 🙂

  2. Leela says:

That image is just so striking that I wish I had thought of it.

  3. Tindi says:

Is that what the pink lizards do when they’re not in the Valley of Wang?

  4. EveryZig says:

Dagoth Ur (who also used a god’s heart) has nothing on these guys in terms of creepiness…

  5. Jamz says:

Huh. Shadowchild said he came from the corpse of a bird, and those overseers look like birds. What do you want to bet there’s a connection?

  6. Nyktipolos says:

Those little lizards should not look that damn adorable. x3

  7. CharlieLyons says:

Those poor liittle lizards. Especially the one in the far right corner who looks like he’s struggling so much. Maybe the one we saw earlier paddling down the stream escaped this fate. One can only hope. I can’t help thinking their slaves.

  8. CharlieLyons says:

Make that *they’re* slaves. It’s late and I’m half-asleep (which probably makes me think that anyone besides me cares about this typo).

  9. Eugene says:

    Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

  10. Jeanette says:

    Daamn.

  11. TekServer says:

    Hmm.
So is the hiss coming from the lizards, or the heart?

  12. Silverfish says:

    TekServer-
I believe it’s the sound of the ropes hissing as they’re pulled through the pulleys or against whatever is above.

  13. TekServer says:

    I can buy that.

    🙂

  14. Mark Antony says:

You can’t learn that at the Red Cross.

  15. BunnyRock says:

I knew this was comming and it still made me shudder.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is the page that launched Digger from the “occasionally creepy” to the “Dave Hopkins creepy” end of the webcommic creepometer.

  16. Taylor says:

how is the blood making it to the veins?

  17. Sildraug says:

“After a week in my imprisonment keeping the massive heart convulsing, I encountered the plump bear from the bridge once again–skulking in to take a peek for some reason beyond my reckoning. This may have been the distraction I needed to free my Aunt and the rest of my kin. I braced myself, and watched the guards carefully, ready to bolt at the first sign of an opening…”

  18. Fixer-Wolfie says:

Well, Taylor, that will be explained in the next comic. But I will refer to the foot note of the previous comic- Digger says: “…if the anatomy of gods doesn’t differ much from our own…” *Not a safe assumption* and Murai’s response 8 or 9 comics back- Digger: “…think it’s dead?” Murai: “It is difficult to tell with gods, Honored Digger. And they do not die quite like we do.” Niice and creeepy, no?

  19. Tindi says:

Gahhh, I came back to the beginning because for some reason I remembered this page and it’s even creepier than I remembered! *shudders*

  20. Tindi says:

As Bunnyrock said, it’s a good shudder and it brought all of its friends. Eeegh.

But, since I forgot to mention it the last two times: The artwork is incredible!

  21. Lord the 22nd says:

Sildraug has entertained me once more.

  22. Ellemerr says:

I feel so sorry for the lizards. I keep thinking they’re stripped skins. Dead skins that won’t live forever. Like Ed, name-eaten, just exchanging name with skin with liver with soul, and it’s all agony and slavery and un-life!

I understand why the Skins fear the Cold Servants. *shudders*

  23. BunnyRock says:

@TekServer and Silverfish: I believe it is in fact the sounds of Systolic and diastolic function, slowed down a hundred times. In very symplifed terms, the “Sssssss” would be the heart contacting and pumping blood from one chamber to the next, and the “Thud” would be the doors between the ventricles and atria closing.
