  1. Possibly my all-time favorite exchange of dialogue. Well, aside from the bit with the Oracular Slug.

  2. Vera says:

Never try to point out the discrepancies in other people’s beliefs–they will not appreciate the effort. ::nods::

I think it’s pretty clear that the peacock wasn’t compassionate because it didn’t eat the rat; the peacock was compassionate because it helped Shiroshika. She then founded a temple to Ganesh because she was helped by a compassionate peacock holding a rat, which was also compassionate. Compassionate plus rat equals Ganesh.

Then again, maybe it’s just me.

I am loving this comic. Heh, nice shout-out to Hindu mythology by the way. Peacock + rat = awesome godly brothers.

  5. WJS says:

Yeah, I think the Peacock was compassionate for giving the rat a lift, not for refraining from eating it, which as Digger points out, it wouldn’t be inclined to do anyway. Like if you pick up a hitch-hiker, and they thank you, they’re thanking you for giving them a lift, not for not eating them.

  6. BunnyRock says:

So you’re saying it’s okay to eat hitchhikers? Could be handy on long journeys if you ran out of snacks.

  7. Arrkhal says:

If I should ever have to hitchhike someday, anyone compassionate enough to give me a ride will be thanked for not eating me.

  8. JET73L says:

As a rereader who knows that nearly every aspect of this has been mulled over in the past: Digging rat, hmm? I wonder if that has anything to do with a certain tunnel through space…
